With the ever-increasing performance requirements of end-user applications, the micro DC motor industry is undergoing a wave of industrial upgrading centered on technological innovation, with miniaturization, high efficiency, and intelligence becoming the mainstream development directions. Several technological breakthroughs have recently emerged within the industry, injecting new momentum into its development.
In terms of product form innovation, significant breakthroughs have been achieved in axial flux design technology. The latest domestically developed rare-earth permanent magnet axial flux motor is only 6 mm thick, reducing volume by 60% and weight by 80% compared to traditional motors. A 3-watt product can achieve a speed of 5500 rpm and a torque of 15 millinewtons, providing solutions for space-sensitive scenarios such as smart cockpits and wearable devices. Material innovation is also progressing simultaneously. The application of neodymium iron boron magnets has increased motor power density by 30%. Global demand for neodymium iron boron reached 120,000 tons in 2024 and is projected to grow to 176,000 tons by 2035.
Significant progress has been made in intelligentization and energy efficiency upgrades. The application of sinusoidal rectification commutation technology has reduced the accuracy of motor speed regulation error rate from 5% to 0.5%, significantly improving equipment control precision. Brushless DC motors (BLDC), with their 5%-8% higher efficiency advantage compared to brushed motors, are rapidly increasing their penetration rate in the high-end market, projected to rise from 35% in 2024 to 52% in 2031. Meanwhile, the upgrade of smart terminals is driving a 25% year-on-year increase in demand for 3V micro motors in 2025, with products with a diameter of less than 5 mm becoming a new favorite in the consumer electronics field.
