When it comes to selecting a brushed DC motor, the RS380 and RS550 are two of the most representative models on the market. Both belong to Hongyang Micro Motor's mature product lineup, but they differ meaningfully in size, power output, torque, and application scope. The RS380 has a diameter of just 27.7mm, with an overall outer diameter of no more than 30mm when fitted with a magnetic ring. At approximately 85g, it is exceptionally compact, making it easy to install inside small handheld power tools and a wide range of electronic devices — an ideal choice for space-constrained product designs.
In terms of power, the RS380 operates within a range of 10 to 50W, placing it firmly in the low-power category. For battery-powered devices, this translates directly into longer runtimes, lower heat generation, and reduced thermal management requirements, helping to lower overall system costs. The RS380 also delivers lower noise and vibration during operation, making it well-suited for consumer products where user experience is a priority.

Compared to the RS380, the RS550 occupies the mid-range of brushed DC motors — its larger form factor comes with a correspondingly stronger power reserve.
With a power range of 50 to 150W, the RS550 is well-equipped for higher-load applications. Particularly noteworthy is its torque output: the RS550 delivers 1.5 to 3 times the torque of the RS380, providing ample power for applications that demand sustained high-torque performance.
Thanks to its mid-range size and broad power output, the RS550 covers a wide variety of product categories. In the home appliance space, it is used in blenders, paper shredders, motorized curtains, and massage chairs. In automotive accessories, it powers vehicle-mounted inflators and car vacuum cleaners. Pricing for the RS550 is slightly higher than the RS380, but significantly lower than 7-series and 8-series motors, making it an outstanding value proposition for product developers seeking a balance between performance and cost.
